Depending on your family, the Holiday season can be a huge source of joy, stress, or both. Some people wake up in a cold sweat from nightmares about the in-laws or that one cousin, while others dread the preparation that goes into creating a memorable holiday experience. This holiday season, let’s take some time to sit down, breathe and relax.

4 Ways to Reduce Stress

1) Exercise

03B65829 (1)Exercising has long been used as a therapeutic both physically and emotionally. You would be surprised at what a half hour workout can accomplish for both your mind and your body. It might feel like it’s hard to fit even a half hour into the crazy holiday schedule, but this is the best way to unwind your mind.

2) Schedule Downtime

getting a massage - stress reliefThe world won’t make downtime for you. That’s your job. Make sure that your days have a scheduled “me” time in then and do whatever you do that helps you unwind. Take a walk, throw on your favorite album and dance around, get a massage, get a bottle of bubble bath and be a kid again. Whatever it is, make sure you take the time to focus on pampering yourself.

Downtime doesn’t have to be every day, of course, but a few times a week you should get your “me” time.

3) Eat Right

healthy eating - stress reliefEating healthy might not seem like the best way to avoid stress, but this principal works in a few different ways.

First, eating healthy contributes to whole body wellness and is a significant way to remain healthy during the holiday season. A properly balanced diet is the best way to keep a healthy immune system (and hey it looks like we have a blog RIGHT HERE about immunity boosting foods! how handy!).

Second, eating right just feel good. Ask anyone who has ever gone on a diet and cut out excess carbs, sugar, calories, or even just stopped drinking soda all the time. The two answers you get are “It’s hard” and “I felt great”. Eating well is more than just weight loss, it’s health gain.

4) Have Fun

Get How do you combat stress? You go out, and you have a great time. Maybe you don’t ski, and that’s fine because for a lot of us this stress is a mentality thing. We get so wrapped up in the holidays and all the things that can make them stressful and scary that we forget the important stuff. We forget to enjoy time with our friends and family, we forget the thrill of giving and receiving gifts, we forget how wonderful those warm night under a blanket with someone special can be.

Don’t defeat yourself mentally before the festivities even begin!

For some people, it’s not as easy as just turning on a switch and having fun however and we understand and respect that. If it’s tough for you, try surrounding yourself with loved ones, asking for help where you need it, and being open to people. There are tons of different stress triggers for everyone, and we can’t even begin to cover it, but we hope you find the thing that works for you and helps you to have fun and enjoy the holiday season.
